The vast majority of the hundreds of millions of people with mental, neurological and substance use disorders in the world do not have even their basic health care needs met. Most of these people live in low and middle income countries. Global mental health is the discipline concerned with addressing this public health crisis.
The Centre for Global Mental Health (CGMH), launched on October 9th 2009, is a collaboration between the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and King’s Health Partners (incorporating King’s College London), including the Institute of Psychiatry and three of London’s most successful NHS Foundation Trusts). It aims to build on the existing collaborations and complementary strengths of these two institutions to foster research and training in policy, prevention, treatment and care.
On this website, you can find out about our research, our teaching and training programs and our plans for the future.
The Centre is jointly led by Professors Vikram Patel and Martin Prince and comprises academic staff and PhD students from both institutions.
