Lancet publishes a truly remarkable paper

Today Lancet publishes a truly remarkable paper: Effect of collaborative care between traditional and faith healers and primary health-care workers on psychosis outcomes in Nigeria and Ghana (COSIMPO): a cluster randomised controlled trial. This paper demonstrates that traditional healers in Nigeria and Ghana can effectively work with health workers to improve the lives of thousands of people suffering from psychotic conditions in Africa who have little, if any access, to the healthcare sector. The work was led by Professors Oye Gureje and John Appiah-Poku, two of the best and most acclaimed mental health researchers from West Africa who are at the forefront of developing innovative interventions to manage mental health problems in Africa.
