Anti-Racism Reflective Sessions

8th May - 3rd July 2025
Online plus in person

The Rebalance Working Group has been working behind the scenes for the past one year to bring together a short series of Anti-Racism Reflective Sessions for CGMH members.

In the current political climate and as part of our commitment to being a responsive global health research centre, it is very relevant to emphasise the importance of anti-racist practices and decolonising efforts on both, a personal and professional level.

Our facilitator, Steve Gilbert OBE, has co-produced a five-part reflective series with the Rebalance Working Group. It will focus on race and social justice in academia and encourage critical thinking and conversation, to improve awareness, knowledge, and competencies in promoting racially equitable working practices and partnerships, within our research centre. The idea is to create a safe and meaningful space to have conversations about racial justice and equity and explore steps that can be taken to achieve equity. Along with the five-part reflective series, we have also planned an art workshop aimed at expressing complex emotions, thoughts and processes to challenge racial inequity in academia.

The five sessions have been planned as per the below schedule:

  • 8th May, 3 PM to 4:30 PM BST
  • 20th May, 3 PM to 4:30 PM BST
  • 5th June, 3 PM to 4:30 PM BST
  • 23rd June, 3 PM to 4:30 PM BST
  • 3rd July, 11 AM to 12:30PM, BST

++ Relax Arts Workshop: 3rd July, 3:30 PM to 5 PM BST

Why attend?

  • To play your part in pioneering a global mental health field that is equitable, and helps the field align with the greater decolonising movement in Global Health;
  • Provide tools that benefit your research and immediate working environment (in terms of ensuring equitable partnerships);
  • Find dedicated time to reflect with colleagues and build competencies in a safe and interactive manner.
